What is an 00 fault on an Ideal logic?
An 00 fault on an Ideal Logic means the boiler is not being used. 00 on the boiler display means there is currently no demand for heating or hot water. This article can help you solve an 00 fault on your Ideal Logic boiler.
What is a 00 fault on an Ideal Logic?
Summer winter selector switch turned to summer
Why am I getting an 00 fault on my Ideal Logic?
An Ideal Logic boiler displays 00 because there is no demand. For a combi boiler that is:
- Room thermostat set too low
- The heating timer turned off
- Summer winter selector switch turned to summer
- No hot water demand.
Why have I got a 00 fault?
Room thermostat set too low:
The heating only comes on if temperature on the room thermostat is higher than the current room temperature.
Some people always keep your room thermostat at 20oC. If the room temperature is above 20oC eg. 23oC the heating will not turn on.
This happens when the house is already warm. For example in the summer or if the heating has already been on.
As soon as the room temperature drops to below 20oC there will be a demand and the heating will start.

The HIVE thermostat in the picture above is set to 32oC. The heating will run until the room is above that temperature.

The thermostat in the picture above is set to only come on at 5oC. The heating will not run until the room is below that temperature. As the temperature is set very low the heating will rarely come on. This is the type of situation where 00 would be displayed on the boiler and the house would stay cold.
Beware that not all thermostats look like this. Some are digital and some have dials that turn in the other direction. Others are a mixture of timer and thermostat so they may be off because of a timer.
Your thermostat may have a battery in it that can run out. A wireless battery-powered thermostat always has a receiver you will find it near the boiler. This can be in the boiler or on the wall near the boiler. Check to see if there is a battery compartment on the wall thermostat and replace the batteries.
Heating timer turned off
You must turn up the thermostat and turn on the timer to make the heating work.

This image displays a mechanical timer (from an Ideal Logic) in the ‘constantly on’ position.
You can select three positions with the switch; top middle or bottom. This selects from always off, timer, or always on. The selector switch currently sits in the ‘always on’ position. Pushing the switch down prevents the heating from coming on entirely. Moving the switch to the middle allows the heating to follow the timer’s schedule.
00 fault when summer winter selector switch turned to summer.
Ideal Logic boilers have a power selector switch with three options. Turn the switch to the far left to switch the boiler off. Hot water only in the middle and heating and hot water on the far right. This is a throwback to when thermostats and timers were not as common. In the summer you would turn the heating off at the boiler. In the winter you would turn it back on again at the boiler.

When you have the switch set to hot water only the heating will not work. The thermostat and timer are disabled so turning them up or down will have no effect.
No hot water demand
Inside the boiler, there is a small propeller that turns when water flows through the boiler to the hot tap. This propeller is called the flow turbine. The boiler knows that hot water is required when the flow turbine spins..
If the water is flowing too slowly the boiler will not recognize the demand and will not fire.
One way to check this is to turn as many taps on as fast as possible. This provides the maximum flow rate to the boiler giving it the best chance of working.
If the water flow turbine is broken or clogged then it cannot turn and the boiler will not fire.
Ideal Boiler Fault Guide to 00 fault
Ideal don’t class 00 as a fault. They have this statement on their website:
“When ‘0’ is displayed on the boiler screen it means the boiler is on standby. This means the boiler is not receiving a demand from either the hot water or central heating”.
00 fault: Summary
- If an 00 fault is displayed on your Ideal Logic you must create a demand.
- Turn the thermostat up above the current room temperature.
- Turn on any heating timers.
- Run a hot tap.
If an 00 fault is displayed on your Ideal Logic you must create a demand. Turn up the thermostat, turn on any timers, or run a hot tap.
If the boiler still doesn’t turn on you’ll need to get a gas engineer or electrician. They can check your boiler or controls to diagnose the fault.
